Green Schools

May 2018 – we were awarded the Green Flag for “Litter & Waste” and our flag is hanging proudly in our school.

Green-Schools is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment.

St Anne’s Primary School has been part of the Green School Programme for a number of years and this year we want to renew our Green Flag status.

This involves lots of works by the children, staff and parents of our school, led by our Green Schools Committee.

Our Aims are:

  • To foster in the children a sense of pride in keeping their school and community litter free.
  • To reduce waste in our school.
  • To make children aware of their civic responsibility to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill
  • To foster in the children a lifelong habit of recycling -‘Reduce, Reuse & Recycle’

The Seven Steps to achieving a Green Flag

  1. Green Schools Committee

Our committee includes children, teachers, SNA’s and parents.

  1. Environmental Review

We have undertaken an environmental review of our school both inside and out to determine any litter blackspots and any areas where we can improve on recycling. This has helped us identify targets for action and improvement.

  1. Action Plan

An Action Plan has been put in place to encourage recycling, reduce waste, keep our school litter free and foster lifelong habits of recycling in all involved. Our Action Plan is displayed on our Green Schools notice board.

  1. Monitoring and Evaluation

The Green Schools Team will continually monitor and evaluate our progress to make sure we are all doing our best to achieve our Action Plan targets.

  1. Curriculum Work

Throughout the year teachers support Green-Schools by integrating environmental issues into SESE and SPHE lessons.

  1. Informing and Involving

The school and wider community is kept involved through assemblies, announcements, displays, curriculum integration, our green schools notice board, our webpage and parental involvement in our committee.

  1. Green Code

We do not litter

We sort our rubbish for recycling or for general waste.

We recycle as much as possible
